Our history started
30 years ago.
The art of pastry has been living a life of its own in the Top family for over three decades now.
It was the early 90s and Laura had just arrived into the world in the little town of Arad, Romania. About 600 kilometers East, Alexandru was watching his mother starting to learn about the art of pastry from her mother-in-law.
It was only ten years later that "TOPCaffè" opened its doors for the people in town to enjoy classic Romanian desserts and discover the French pastry the women of the Top family were so passionate about. That was what we can now, in hindsight, call "TOP 01".
In 2020, Laura and Alexandru had their first coffee & croissant rendez-vous in the heart of Vienna. Little did they know back then that they were going to have a dream to share together: TOP 02 [topzwei].
It wasn't a coincidence that Laura started spending time with her soon to be mother-in-law in the TOPCaffè laboratory. She was in awe. She quit her corporate job and never looked back. With the support of her new family, Laura started her formal education in pastry and the food industry, traveling all around Europe to learn from the finest chefs.
TOP 02 was a chance for Alexandru to turn a dream into reality while continuing to honor the family legacy. Alexandru is a UI/UX designer by profession. His attention to detail, aesthetics and numbers were foundational to the outlook of the business.
In July 2023, TOP 02 welcomed its first customers. Thousands of people have since tasted our products. Some of them have tried éclairs for the first time in their lives, and, by the joy in their eyes, we could tell it wouldn't be the last one.
Our team has grown and changed since then, but one thing stays the same: we are here to put specialty desserts on the Viennese map of culinary experiences. Piece by piece, day by day.
